Outfit Repeating.

Interactive Twine Story

For my Twine story I chose to explore the topic of outfit repeating. I specifically wanted to allow individuals to reflect upon their own experience surrounding this concept. I felt that this topic was relevant due to the fast fashion industry that is currently fuelling a negative stigma around outfit repeating. As a result, it has been argued this encourages individuals to consistently expand their wardrobes for each season or occasion (Nizzoli, 2022). According to a BOF report in 2019, it was found that ‘one in three young women consider clothes old after wearing them once or twice’ (Rice, 2022). Therefore, this evidence indicates that the concept of outfit repeating needs to be talked about, in order for the stigma behind it to be dismantled.

After conducting research surrounding this concept, I used a digital document to brainstorm the layout of my story (See Appendix A). This brainstorm included writing out potential questions and statements I wanted to include. Underneath these questions and statements, I linked potential answers and supporting information for individuals to engage with. It has been argued that successful storytelling occurs when ‘you create new patterns and meaning by linking people, events and things that previously seem disconnected’ (Mueller, 2022a, p.63). As a result, I included a balance of facts, quotes and questions to connect potentially disconnected ideas. This could create positive engagement and interest, encouraging reflection upon this concept.

I also included an image that I created using Canva. I wanted to incorporate this due to the existing arguments surrounding the effects of multimedia within storytelling. These arguments include the supposed immersive impact upon individuals when reading stories with multimedia elements (Mueller, 2022b, p.24). Peer feedback supported this theory, however it was also highlighted that it could have been effective to include further images to enhance this immersive impact.
